Best picture quality 55 inch TVs - Summer 2016 Reviews

We still have a few 2016 55" TVs to test but most of the popular models have been reviewed already. 2015 models begin to fade out and aren't always cheaper than newer models so now is a good time to buy a new TV
 LG OLED55E6P .https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-OLED55E6P-55-Inch-Ultra/dp/B01CDD4J58?ie=UTF8&redirect=true&tag=rtings-tv-bm01a-20
In 2016, the best 55 inch 4k TV that we have reviewed is the LG OLED55E6P. While not without flaws, it is the closest we have seen to picture perfect and is better than all LED TVs on the market. Last year LG OLED 55EF9500 offers near identical picture quality except not as good HDR (less colors and brightness) but can be bought for less.

LG 55EG9100

The LG OLED 55EG9100 1080p is perfect for those that sit farther away than about 8 feet from their TV where additional 4k details are lost. Compared to the LG OLED55E6P, it doesn't support HDR (less colors and can't get as bright) but otherwise offer the same excellent picture quality for most content and outperform LED TVs.

Best 55 Inch TV - $1,000 to $1,500

 Samsung UN55KS8000 https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN55KS8000-55-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01C5TFLSE?ie=UTF8&redirect=true&tag=rtings-tv-bm01a-20

For most people, the Samsung UN55KS8000 represent the best TV to buy in 55 inch. Its impressive picture quality is nearly identical to the top of the line Samsung UN55KS9500 which isn't worth the increase in price. Be it movies, sports or video games, the UN55KS8000 performs great with mixed usages. It can also get very bright so is a nice option for even the brightest living rooms.

Vizio P55-C1

For people that only play video games, the 55 inch Vizio P55-C1 is slightly more responsive (lower input lag). It reflects more light in a bright room though and for most content the Samsung UN55KS8000 still is better.
Note that the 65" version we reviewed (P65-C1) is different than the 55" P55-C1. The 55" has an IPS panel that produces better picture when watched from the side but not as good in a dark room

Best 55 Inch TV - $750 to $1,000

$750 to $1,000 can buy a good TV with great bang for the bucks although with fewer features like 3D, HDR, extra brightness or wider colors. For normal content, the picture quality is about the same in this price range as pricier TVs.

Sony XBR55X810C
 https://www.amazon.com/Sony-XBR55X810C-55-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B0148OZLOS?ie=UTF8&redirect=true&tag=rtings-tv-bm01a-20

For between $750 to $1,000, the Sony XBR55X810C is the best TV you can get by far. It cannot get as bright or display as much colors as higher end models but has nearly as good picture quality for non-HDR, regular content. In this price range, you don't need to look elsewhere.

Samsung UN55KU6300
 https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN55KU6300-55-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01E69WHP6?ie=UTF8&redirect=true&tag=rtings-tv-bm01a-20

If gaming is a priority, the Samsung UN55KU6300 is more responsive with an input lag of 19.8 ms. It can also get brighter but has slightly more blur so not as good for sports. For most people the Sony XBR55X810C remains the better buy.

Our recommendations above are what we think is currently the best 55 inch TVs to buy for most people in each price range. We factor in the price (a cheaper TV wins over a pricier one if the difference isn't really worth it), feedback from our visitors and availability (no TVs that are difficult to find or almost out of stock everywhere).

Sony XBR55X930D. Nice TV but the Samsung KS8000 is better on nearly all fronts

Samsung UN55KU7000. Not a bad TV but not an improvement over last year 7 series or even the 2016 KU6300
